Caroline Burvill

I am a painter of landscapes, and my work examines our relationship to open space, whether present or remembered.

I am drawn to pathways etched into the landscape, our own human meanderings, as well as trails left by animals, and how these appear to beckon us to adventure out, explore, follow, or just ‘go’.

It is a long view of imaginary travels - itineraries, which allow the mind and memory to roam.

Heavily textured hemp, cotton and linen form most of the grounds, which allow the paint to be painted  or spread, and then sanded and scraped, a ‘weathering’ process, which sits well with the weather-blown landscapes which are the subject matter.
